CATS FOR AFRICA SPONSORSHIP
Cats For Africa and three other private donors raised R5000 to sponsor    "Leeu", a livestock guarding dog stationed in Chrissiesmeer, South Africa.

EWT's March 2011 report says "Leeu is living with his herd of 700 sheep out in the grazing fields. During the reporting period just when Leeu was left out with the herd of sheep for the first week, three sheep were killed and eaten on. The farmer suspected that Leeu was the culprit, but close investigation by the farm workers actually showed that a feral dog moving through the farm was responsible for these losses. Soon after this the damage by the feral dog stopped and it is thought that Leeu might have chased him off. Leeu is a huge dog but is very calm and not over playful, but does take to chasing the ostriches when they approach the herd of sheep too closely. The farmer is very excited about the project and is very positive and extremely proud of Leeu."

LIVESTOCK GUARDING DOGS

Endangered Wildlife Trust

Cats For Africa invites all visitors to this website to make a contribution towards livestock guarding dogs.

These well trained dogs protect farmers' livestock from predators such as leopard, cheetah, caracal and serval. This dramatically reduces human-wildlife conflict and thus significantly contributes to wild cat conservation.

To contribute to this worthwhile and very successful project, please go to EWT Livestock Guarding Dog Project today, it will just take a few minutes.

Thank you for your support!

The livestock guarding dog project was pioneered by the Cheetah Conservation Fund  in Namibia.  Watch this fascinating video for the full story.
